One of the more formal KATALYST styles for this season, the Envelop Dress in Navy Seersucker is our take on summer eveningwear.
Unique curves carve out a high leg split at the front of the dress, greeting a diagonal seam line and additional darts which billow and restrict the fabric at different points.
The hem is anything but traditional, forming into rounded pieces and divots that are almost puzzle-piece-like in nature.
The same diagonal seam line wraps around the back towards a side split, framing the body. An asymmetrical neckline scoops from high up on one the shoulder towards a thinner strap that moves towards a high-neck back. A keyhole opening comes to a close with a silver button at the neck.
This silhouette is informed by the ‘Legs’ piece from Parallel Frames, the absurd sculpture series that Kate developed to drape and design the collection on. This style has drawn directly on panel shapes created to fit this sculpture, resulting in the asymmetric darts and panel lines wrapping around the body.
The rich, flowy seersucker fabric is a textural dream. It feels light, and yet allows for the sculptural lines of the silhouette to emerge.
Made from deadstock fabric in Magandjin (Brisbane)
Available for preorder now - ships November 6th 2026.
Parallel Frames brings together two key pillars of KATALYST —conceptual sculpture and ready-to-wear garments — positioning them in conversation and allowing each practice to inform the other. Our RS27 collection, Parallel Frames is a result of this dialogue.
Parallel Frames distorts the traditional mannequin silhouette to explore how the use of standardised body shapes in design affects our perception of the normative body. Three abstract forms reminiscent of bodily shapes were made from wire and fabric offcuts and became dress forms that were draped upon to develop RTW styles. The design process for each garment begins here, and was then fitted on the human body and adjusted, going back and forth in a conversation between constructed forms and natural ones.
