The Shoulders Halter Top in Lilac Towelling is a multi-sensory experience that is both flattering and fun to wear (and touch).
A sleek take on a utilitarian textile, the rich towelling of the Shoulders Halter Top can be styled up for the bar or down for the beach.
From its high neck this silhouette sweeps down one side towards a gathered drawstring casing, and on the other side, a panel that moves across the back, meeting the other piece via an adjustable tie.
At the neck, another adjustable tie allows for flexible fit and ease.
Aptly, the Shoulders Halter is informed by the ‘Shoulders’ piece from Parallel Frames, the absurd sculpture series that Kate developed to drape and design the collection on. Multiple dart lines, similar to those seen on the Discord Top, cut across the front of the body, providing more shape to the figure and a unique silhouette which stays true to KATALYST’s continual reinterpretation of typical garment construction.
Made from deadstock fabric in Magandjin (Brisbane)
Available for preorder now - ships November 6th 2026.
Parallel Frames brings together two key pillars of KATALYST —conceptual sculpture and ready-to-wear garments — positioning them in conversation and allowing each practice to inform the other. Our RS27 collection, Parallel Frames is a result of this dialogue.
Parallel Frames distorts the traditional mannequin silhouette to explore how the use of standardised body shapes in design affects our perception of the normative body. Three abstract forms reminiscent of bodily shapes were made from wire and fabric offcuts and became dress forms that were draped upon to develop RTW styles. The design process for each garment begins here, and was then fitted on the human body and adjusted, going back and forth in a conversation between constructed forms and natural ones.
